I guess a friend is a friend and it should stay that way but human relationships are complex and very often emotions and feelings change the path to love. Some accept it but it may not be everyone's choice.
I’ve been the guy in this scenario. But I valued the person more than my desires and respected the other person’s wishes. We remain friends to this day. It’s his loss, not having you in his life.
