Many People Use "Hmmm" While Texting or in Conversations But What Does It Really Mean?

Here are 10 reasons to use “hmmm” in texts or conversation.

1. When in doubt say hmmm…..there are times when you are not quite sure what the right answer is so hmmm.

2. When you are thinking about what the other person just texted say hmmm.

3. When you want to show that you are paying attention and being empathetic to the other person venting about their problems say hmmm.

4. When something the other person gives you the warm fuzzies says hmmm.

5. Say hmmm when you want to fill in the gaps because you have nothing to add to the conversation but don’t want to be insensitive.

6. Some mumble hmmm instead of yes.

7. Say hmmm when you are preoccupied and not really vested in the conversation. The other will be sure to get the message.

8. Say hmmm before you offer an opinion when you are unsure how it will be taken.

9. Say hmmm when you are upset and want to convey to the other without actually saying words.

10. Sometimes insecure and shy people use hmmm more often in chat because they aren’t sure how to carry the convo forward.
